The Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) of Italy is the main public research network in Italy whose mission is to carry out, promote, transfer and spread interdisciplinary research activities in the main sectors of knowledge growth as well as its applications supporting the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country.
CNR is present all over Italy through a network of institutes aiming at promoting a wide diffusion of its competences throughout the national territory and at facilitating contacts and cooperation with local firms and organizations. Apart from public founding, 30 % of its balance comes from agreements with firms, from contracts with the European Union and with other national and international organizations.
Two research institutes of CNR are involved in the “VISTA” project.
ISSIA-CNR performs research, development and innovation activities in the area of intelligent agents for monitoring, understanding and interacting with complex and uncertain environments. ISSIA works on design and development of multi-sensory systems for processing and fusing multisource and multimodal data. Moreover, it designs and develops tools for the analysis of data, for the selection of features, able to cooperate with human operators for decision and control problems.
ITIA-CNR, as a promoter of Industrial Innovation, performs strategic activities of Scientific Research and Technological Development for the Competitiveness and Sustainability of Italian and European Manufacturing Industries. ITIA contributes and supports the European Technological Platform MANUFUTURE initiative finalized in development of added high value manufacturing based on research and innovation. ITIA is founder member of EFFRA and is a member of the Industrial Research Advisory Group and of the Ad-hoc Industrial Advisory Group.
ISSIA-CNR develops advanced technologies for diagnostics and quality control. Different sensory data are analysed for inspecting products in industrial production lines, for monitoring infrastructure degradations and for non-destructive testing of composite materials in the aerospace industry. Furthermore, ISSIA-CNR develops intelligent autonomous vehicles that can host the developed vision systems.
ITIA-CNR develops technologies for robot-environment and robot-human interaction. The integration of sensorial information into behavioural models and controls of robot systems enables the use of robots in context-aware applications with workspace sharing.
